London - Everton have reached agreement with FC Twente to sign Netherlands midfielder Leroy Fer, the English Premier League club announced on Monday.
The 23-year-old will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and discuss personal terms.
Fer began his career at Feyenoord before moving to FC Twente in 2011, for whom he scored 10 goals in 29 appearances.
He has made two full international appearances and has played for the Netherlands alongside Johnny Heitinga, who scored Everton's winner in their FA Cup fourth round victory over Bolton on Saturday.
After the match, Everton manager David Moyes indicated he wanted to sign either a midfielder or a striker before the end of the January transfer window.
Fer made unwanted headlines last year when he spent £22 000 on a horse for his girlfriend, only to find she could not keep it as she lives in a block of flats.
