Everton, Villa share spoils

Liverpool - Everton and Aston Villa drew 1-1 at Goodison Park on Saturday in a Premiership match where both sides finished with 10 men.

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov put the Toffees in front after being set up by Aiyegbeni Yakubu before substitute John Carew levelled for Villa.

But in the closing stages Bilyaletdinov was sent off for a two-footed challenge and Villa's Carlos Cuellar then saw red.

The match was still goalless heading towards the break when Everton and Australia midfielder Tim Cahill broke clear from Richard Dunne and crossed, with the ball taking a touch off Yakubu.

The ball then spun loose to Russia midfielder Bilyaletdinov, who sidefooted past Brad Friedel to make sure the United States goalkeeper would not keep a clean sheet on his 200th consecutive Premier League appearance.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill brought Carew on at half-time and saw his decision rewarded with an equalising goal a minute after the break.

Stephen Warnock's cross found Gabriel Agbonlahor at the back post, and although Tim Howard got a hand to the striker's shot, Norway international Carew turned in the loose ball.

Everton manager David Moyes took off Marouane Fellaini in favour of top-scorer Louis Saha.

The French forward fired wide with five minutes remaining, shortly after Warnock's aerial challenge had denied Cahill.

There was still time for both sides to have a player sent-off, with Bilyaletdinov exiting for a two-footed challenge on Stiliyan Petrov before Cuellar, already booked by referee Lee Probert for a foul on Leighton Baines, received a second yellow card for upending Yakubu.
