EPL giants chase Roma star

Cape Town - Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in hijacking Bayern Munich's move for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia.

The Daily Star reports that Roma have rejected Bayern Munich's offer and the race for the defender is back on.

Benatia look set for a move to Pep Guardiola's Bayern but reports in Italy suggest that Roma have withdrawn from talks after the Bundesliga giants failed to meet the Moroccan star defender's valuation.  before the close of the summer transfer window.

Roma reportedly value Benatia at £30 million but Bayern only offered £24 million.

The 27-year-old defender is wanted by all three clubs to replace different players. Bayern are looking to fill the void left by Javi Martinez's long-term injury, Manchester United want the player to replace Nemanja Vidic while Arsene Wenger needs to replace Thomas Vermaelen.

The same source report that Roma have held talks with the two English clubs as Roma appear to have accepted losing their star player in this transfer window.
