Di Maria thanks van Gaal for move

Cape Town - Manchester United's record signing Angel Di Maria has thanked Louis van Gaal for bringing him to Old Trafford.

Signed from Real Madrid for a massive £59.7 million, Di Maria grabbed his first Premiership goal against QPR last weekend.

The 26-year-old Argentine is intent on showing fans that he is worth the price tag according to the Express.

"Van Gaal was really important for me, in order to come here," Di Maria told Perform.

"[He] was one of the first [people] who spoke about bringing me here. The coach always has the last word about the players he wants.

"I am really grateful to him because, thanks [to] him, I am now playing for United.

"I keep trying to improve every day and for that reason I wanted to come here to United.

"I needed to change my life. I will try my best to play the right way. I will try my best every match and show my arrival at Old Trafford was worthy."

Manchester United travel to face Leicester City on Sunday, September 21.

The Old Trafford club thrashed QPR to register their first win of the season and move up to ninth spot on the log.

Leicester City, who have already faced Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal, saw off Stoke in their last game.

Both clubs have five points after their opening four games.

The match kicks off at 14:30.
