Defoe returning to Spurs
London - Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe is returning to Tottenham after the two clubs agreed on a reported transfer fee of 15 million pounds ($22 million; €16.2 million).
The move was expected to be finalised later on Tuesday after the 26-year-old Defoe travelled to London for a medical check at White Hart Lane.
"Personal terms have been agreed and the striker will undergo a medical," Spurs said in a statement.
Defoe will team up for the third time with manager Harry Redknapp, who moved to Tottenham from Portsmouth in late October.
Defoe had five years with Tottenham before moving to Portsmouth a year ago for 9 million pounds (then $18 million; €12 million) because he was not getting regular starts with the north London club. He also played under Redknapp at West Ham.
Defoe scored eight goals in his first seven games for Portsmouth last season and has scored nine this term.
