Defoe blow for Tottenham

London - Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has been ruled out for up to 10 days with a muscle injury, manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed on Wednesday.

It means he will miss the first leg of Spurs' Europa League quarter-final at home to Basel on Thursday, as well as Sunday's home game with Everton in the Premier League.

"Jermain has a muscle injury that is probably going to take him out of the next two games and maybe Basel away (on April 11)," Villas-Boas said.

"If he can't make Basel away, he should be fit in the week when we prepare to play Manchester City.

"It is a big blow. It is on the muscle he had a small tear last month but it is on the other side now. He is a big miss and has shown tremendous quality this season."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
