City owner tops Rich List

2011-10-05 14:14

London - Manchester City's billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour is top of football's Rich List, according to British magazine FourFourTwo.

Sheikh Mansour, a member of Abu Dhabi's ruling Al-Nahyan family, is believed to be worth £20 billion, putting him ahead of the likes of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Indian steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, who has a stake in Premier League club QPR.

Mansour's vast wealth has helped City join European football's elite after years of underachievement.

He has invested over £300 million on new signings since taking over the club 2008 and has been rewarded by seeing the team qualify for this season's Champions League and win last season's FA Cup final.

FourFourTwo say that Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov is now wealthier than QPR shareholder Mittal.

Usmanov is now reported to be worth £12.4 billion, with Mittal slipping to third with a fortune of £11.8 billion.

Abramovich sits fourth on the list, with FourFourTwo reporting his fortune grew by £2.9 billion over the year to reach £10.3 billion.

Malcolm Glazer, the owner of Manchester United, has reportedly increased his fortune by £110 million to remain ninth on the list.

Liverpool owner John W Henry, whose consortium completed their buy-out of the club just over a year ago, is the highest new entry on the list, with the American going in at 20th.

Former England captain David Beckham's wealth has grown by £35 million to give him a personal fortune of £135 million according to the FourFourTwo list, making him the wealthiest player on their list and 42nd overall.

Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand remain second and third on the players' list, with Ferdinand's United team-mates Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney fourth and fifth respectively.

England boss Fabio Capello's reported fortune of £38 million puts him top of FourFourTwo's managers list.

When players feature on the same list as the owners then you know football is heading in the wrong direction. Something has got to give at some time. Where will all this lead to?

jabski, I cant take anything you say seriously. After you actually said you were in a green street hooligans figting battle against Chelsea fans for almost two decades long. I think you are hallusinating. Or you are on a hardcore drug. Either way, fantasy world man.

I have to wonder why QPR hasnt gone over the top with investing in the club. Not saying they should pull a city or a chelsea but put some investing in some things such as training facilities, youth development and perhaps one or two stars. Same goes for Arsenal since they are the only one of the Top EPL teams that actually makes profits
