After weeks of speculation, Manchester City have finally confirmed the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as the new manager of the club.

Shortly after former coach Roberto Mancini was shown the door, reports had suggested that Pellegrini, who was the manager of Malaga at the time, was the favourite to take over at the Etihad.

The manager has now completed his move to the English Premier League side, and says that he is excited about the task ahead as he tries to help City get back among the trophies.

A statement on the club's official website read, "Manchester City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as first team manager.

"Pellegrini, who joins the Club on a three year contract, will take up the role from 24th June.

"Manuel Pellegrini has more than 25 years of managerial experience during which time he has led clubs in his native Chile, Ecuador and Argentina to six major trophies, including League titles with LDU Quito and Argentinian sides River Plate and San Lorenzo.

"His last nine years have been spent in Spain where he has impressed with his management of Villarreal, Real Madrid and most recently Malaga."

The manager himself added, “I am delighted to accept this hugely exciting opportunity. The Club has a clear vision for success both on and off the pitch and I am committed to making a significant contribution.

"Everything is in place for Manchester City to continue to be successful and I am excited to be able to work with such a talented squad, the Executive team and the Board to deliver for fans who are renowned for their steadfast support.”
