Chelsea sign Czech teenager

Prague - English Premiership champions Chelsea have signed Tomas Kalas, a 17-year-old defender from the Czech Republic.

Chelsea and the player's agency, Sport Invest Group, said Kalas will stay with his Czech club, Olomouc, on loan next season before moving to Stamford Bridge.

Other clubs interested in the player included Arsenal, AC Milan and German Bundesliga teams Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim.

Details of the contract have not been released. Czech media reported Olomouc could get $7.8m.
