London - Chelsea have emerged as a potential bidder for Wayne Rooney after manager Carlo Ancelotti said he would be interested in signing the England striker should he become available.
Rooney's future at Manchester United appears to be in doubt after a reported breakdown in relations with his manager Alex Ferguson.
Manchester City are widely reported in the British press to be ready to come in with an offer for Rooney, but Chelsea is the first club to openly declare an interest.
Ancelotti said "if Rooney is on the market, I think that not only Chelsea would be interested."
Ferguson is likely to be asked questions about his relationship with Rooney at a pre-match news conference at Old Trafford on Tuesday, ahead of United's Champions League game against Bursaspor.
