Cape Town - Manchester United striker Michael Owen could be leaving Old Trafford to move to Australia A-League side the Newcastle Jets.
According to the Newcastle Herald, Jets owner Nathan Tinkler will offer Owen a cash-plus-thoroughbred deal in a bid to appeal to his love of racing.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Jets coach Branko Culina said: 'I don't know about Michael Owen but there is no secret that we are looking for a player that will add to our strength on the park and also give us profile off the park, to ensure that we can attract additional supporters.'
Owen, who has struggled to cement a regular starting place in the Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, would join the likes of former team-mate Robbie Fowler and former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke as some of the big names to play in Australia’s top league.
