London - Wayne Bridge has joined bottom of the table West Ham on loan from fellow Premiership side Manchester City until the end of the season, the Hammers announced on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old former England international has found himself out of first team reckoning at title-chasers City following the pre-season arrival of both Aleksandar Kolarov and Jerome Boateng.
"It will be great to play a part in helping keep West Ham in the Premier League," left-back Bridge told West Ham's official website
"It would be a big achievement," added Bridge who could make his Hammers debut at home to London rivals Arsenal on Saturday.
Bridge, capped 36 times by England, found himself making headlines last year when he refused to make himself available for Fabio Capello's World Cup squad following former Chelsea team-mate John Terry's alleged affair with the full-back's former girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel.
Capello stripped centre-half Terry of the England captaincy following newspaper revelations about his relationship with Perroncel but that wasn't enough to appease Bridge, who said he no longer wanted to be considered for international duty because of his former friend's presence in the squad.
Bridge was among the crowd at Upton Park on Tuesday when Hammers manager Avram Grant had to switch Matthew Upson to left-back in a 2-1 win over Birmingham in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.
"I know a few of the players from England and I know the physio," Bridge said Wednesday.
"I spoke to Scotty Parker and a few people and they told me what a great club it is.
"That definitely helped me make the decision to come here.
"There is a lot of quality here and I know we can move up the table.
"The first half on Tuesday was great.
"There should have been a few more goals and then the team came back with 10 men. If we can play like that every week we'll be fine."
