Breaks that helped United

London - Five moments that helped Manchester United win the 2008/09 English Premiership title - their 18th in total.

Derby delight

November 30, 2008: Winning the Manchester derby 1-0 through Wayne Rooney's first-half goal, United are reduced to ten men when Cristiano Ronaldo is sent off for handball. Patrice Evra's last-gasp goalline clearance preserves the three points.

Christmas gift

December 26, 2008: United return from Club World Cup in Japan and look weary as they struggle to break down Stoke at the Britannia Stadium. But after Andy Wilkinson is sent off for the home side, Carlos Tevez snatches winner with seven minutes left.

Macheda magic

April 5, 2009: Still reeling from back-to-back defeats by Liverpool and Fulham, United are 2-1 down to Aston Villa with ten minutes to go. Ronaldo equalises and Italian teenager Federico Macheda comes off the bench to score a superb stoppage-time winner.

Penalty platform

April 25, 2009: Trailing 2-0 at half-time to Tottenham, United are awarded a penalty for a 'foul' by Spurs goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes on Michael Carrick. Referee Howard Webb later owns up to a mistake but the penalty triggers a United revival and they go on to win 5-2.

Timely Tevez

May 13th, 2009: With finishing line in sight, United produce nervy display and go a goal down at Wigan. Introduction of Tevez proves to be the catalyst for a comeback and the Argentinian's back-heeled equaliser allows Carrick to claim the winner with four minutes left.
