Cape Town - Sunderland captain John O'Shea remains committed to the club after being handed a two-year contract extension at the Stadium of Light.
The new deal caps off a memorable week for the 33-year-old defender, who scored a last-gasp equaliser against Germany on Tuesday on his 100th appearance for the Republic of Ireland.
O'Shea signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats on his arrival from Manchester United in July 2011 and has gone on to rack up 121 appearances in all competitions.
The Irishman expressed his delight at signing on with Gus Poyet's side for another two years to keep him on Wearside until 2017.
He told the club's official website: "Since I arrived at Sunderland, I have enjoyed every minute and I'm really happy that I can continue here for another two years.
"To captain a club like this and to play in front of our fantastic supporters is a huge honour and I look forward to showing my commitment to the club on the pitch in the years to come."
