Big Sam in recovery

London - Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce underwent a procedure on his heart on Friday and is expected to be out of hospital soon.

The 55-year-old had angioplasty to correct the narrowing of one branch of his coronary arteries.

"The procedure has gone well and Sam is expected to be discharged from hospital on Saturday," said club doctor Phil Batty.

Allardyce will miss Saturday's Premier League game at Stoke City, and possibly the Carling Cup tie with Chelsea on Wednesday, but he should have returned to the dug-out by the following Saturday for the home game against Liverpool.

"I would like to thank everyone who has sent messages of goodwill and the entire cardiology team," Allardyce said.
