Johannesburg - Queens Park Rangers coach Neil Warnock has declared that the club's priority is to sign Wayne Routledge, Ishmael Miller, Danny Shittu and Pasca Chimbonda, while former Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy will be considered as a possible fifth signing.
QPR are struggling to fit McCarthy into their budget during the current transfer window and a deal now seems unlikely for the English Championship side according to the Chronicle.
33-year-old McCarthy played in a recent friendly between QPR and Tottenham Hotspur against another South African international Bongani Khumalo, which the lower division team lost 9-2.
Speaking to the London based website, Warnock said, "I’ve been allocated a certain budget by the board this week, and the priority is three, maybe four other players. Once they're sorted out we’ll look at Benni’s situation again, especially if we have players leaving in one form or another. He did all right and looked fit, so those fat boy stories are untrue."
Top South African agent Glyn Binkin watched the friendly and informed Soccer-Laduma that McCarthy looks much better than people give him credit for.
