London - Blackburn will not be forced into selling Benni McCarthy on the cheap despite him going AWOL, according to a report in thesun.co.uk.

Boss Sam Allardyce is furious with the striker, 32, after he missed training on Friday and then again on Monday.

The South African star has told Rovers he wants to join West Ham this week but the Hammers are £500,000 shy of his £2.5million price tag.

McCarthy is desperate for first-team football so he can nail down a spot in the host nation's World Cup squad.

Big Sam said: "We're very disappointed with Benni's non-appearance and will deal with it should he be here after the transfer window.

"We'll listen to offers but only sell if the commercial and football reasons satisfy us."
