Benitez offered deal to quit

2010-06-03 07:14

London - Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will be offered a three million pound compensation deal to quit the Premiership club, British media reported on Thursday.

Benitez's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon was quoted on the BBC website as saying he would speak to the Spaniard.

Benitez joined the club in 2004 and led them to the Champions League title in 2005 and the FA Cup a year later.

But he has been under increasing pressure at Liverpool, who finished seventh in the Premiership standings last season.

The 50-year-old has been linked with a move to Juventus and Inter Milan but said last month he intended to see out his contract at Liverpool which runs until 2014.

Terrible news!! Now watch Gerrard move to Madrid and Torres leave as well. Because of this LFC will end midtable next year. The owners won't invest any money in the club and our top players will leave. Anyway, thank you Rafa!! YNWA

Benitez with his old tactics and silly defence methods should leave while we are still praising him. He cost us the 2010 League and the 2011 Uefa.

i hope that this is just speculation, what Rafa has done for the club is amazing, fair enough we had a bad last season, but prior to that everyone was screaming praises for him, last season we had injuries to key players, Rafa must stay and the owners must leave, if we have to continue to sell players to get new ones we will never be able to build a title challenging team. i think we have a strong team for next season, they must just not sell Aqualani but i sure as hell hope that Lucas is on his way out

@ YNWA Rafa: . I am afraid the Board have other motives. I dount it has anything to do with this past season's results. Rafa has been very outspoken and he was one of the very few who had the Clubs best interests at heart. He spoke up against the Yanks and the current CEO has been leaking stories to the press as well (which is contrary to The Liverpool Way) Yes Rafa is not perfect but I can promise you that this is one of the biggest mistakes the club has made in quite some time. He will be sorely missed and we will lose players because of this decision!!

he did nothing for liverpool sice 2005.....bad player choices in many areas of the field and not buying quality...go back to being a waiter

Please leave.... NOW..... A new manager can be apponted then we can have a proper build up to the new season.

How can Wes say top players will leave? Do you mean Lucas and Mascherano? Because they're the only 2 who have threatened to leave if Benitez goes. Torres and Gerrard have hinted they will leave if Benitez stays. His defensive style has killed LFC, including sending good forwards off on loan and buying even more defenders. LFC need a manager who isn't there for a fat payout.

Sad day guys. It was just one bad season. In that logic, Fergie should have been sacked soon after United hired him. He did well, made us formidable again. Thanks for the Champs League Trophy Rafa, and all the memories. I'll always regard him in the same mold as the old Boot Room Boys. Good luck for the future. Hope this does not signal Leeds United syndrome for us. I don't really know what great manager is available at the moment, plus who'd want to come with the situation we in (the Yanks, no cash for transfers, spine players ready to leave)? With O'Neil, or Hodgson, prepare to have more seasons like we just had or worse. I'd love Hiddink to come, but he's already signed on for Turkey and does not like to break contracts. Very nervous times ahead, and always will be that way until the Yanks get out.

@ TJ > Please show me the link where Torres and Gerrard made those statements!! In fact had it not been for Benitez then Torres would not have become the player he is today... Torres has on more than one occasion credited Benitez for the impact he has had on his career. This decision will take the club backwards, mark my words!!

did you know that there is a g@y resort in Greece called man united?

  • TJ - 2010-06-04 13:39

@Wes: Was reported in the British media, even discussed on LFC TV. Lucas and Mascherano are a waste and should hopefully follow. Regardless of how you feel about Benitez, you have to admit his defensive tactics hurt us last year. Lets hope they don't try and get clever now by bringing in someone else who wants a fat paycheck. Maybe they should let Dalglish have a go before paying our huge amounts. Anything is better than the fat waiter
