Bale chose Real over United

Cape Town - Welsh winger Gareth Bale chose to join Real Madrid despite Manchester United's lucrative offer according to his agent.

Real Madrid signed the attacking player from from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 for a fee in the region of €100 million. 

The player's agent, Jonathan Barnett, told AS that Manchester United were interested in the player and even offered him more money to try persuade him into a move to Old Trafford.

"He always wanted to play for Madrid", the agent explained to Spanish daily AS.

"He could have gone to United and other clubs, but he wanted Madrid."

"Not much more, but…more." said Barnett when quizzed on whether Bale had a more lucrative offer from Manchester United.

Barnett revealed Bale also was not interested in a move to Madrid's arch-rivals, Barcelona.

"I know that at one point Barcelona were also interested in him, but he said he did not want to go there.

"There were two agents who called me."
