Johannesburg - South African international defender Bongani Khumalo is back in training with English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
A successful pre-season is vital to Khumalo's hopes of making the big-time at Spurs in the upcoming season.
Bafana Bafana fans are convinced that the former SuperSport United man has the talent and the temperament to make it in European top-flight football. So it was somewhat disappointing when he was shipped out on loan by Spurs to Preston North End last season.
It was even more disappointing for Preston fans, who were excited that a player of Khumalo's calibre had arrived to help them in their fight against relegation, only for the defender to injure himself as the club went down.
Khumalo is now proceeding full steam ahead with rehabilitation at Tottenham's training ground Spurs Lodge, and he told the London club's official website he is looking sharp and to the future.
“I worked hard at Spurs with all the coaches, got used to the environment, the players and conditions and it was great to get a test of all I’d learned at Preston," Khumalo said.
“I did all I could, but my loan spell was cut short through injury.
“Everything’s on track," he added, reflecting on the broken toe which cut his loan deal short.
“I’ve been running again and that felt good. I’ve missed that feeling! I’m getting stronger and stronger and building up my fitness again.”
