Aston Villa defeat Wigan

Birmingham - Striker Gabriel Agbonlahor helped give Aston Villa their first ever home Premier League win over Wigan on Saturday, scoring one goal and setting up the other in a 2-0 victory.

Agbonlahor netted his fourth league goal of the campaign to break the deadlock before the break and created the second for Darren Bent in the 62nd minute.

Only a series of fine saves by Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi prevented Villa — still unbeaten in the league this season — from winning by a bigger margin.

The win gives Villa 11 points from seven games, while Wigan remained on five points.
