Cape Town - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has identified a 30-year-old versatile defender as the key to solving the club's defensive crisis.
The Gunners failed to replace the outgoing Thomas Vermaelen in the summer transfer window and have been ravaged by injuries in the early part of the season but are actively pursuing an experienced defender in order to bolster their defensive options.
According to talkSPORT, Arsenal have entered into talks with Stephan Lichtsteiner over a move to the Emirates.
Reports in Italy suggest the talks are at an advanced stage with Wenger hoping to seal a deal for the defender, who is capable of playing anywhere across the back four.
Lichtsteiner's deal at Juventus expires in the summer and Wenger aims to wrap up the deal early in order to beat Inter Milan to his signature.
