Arsenal sign Japanese teen

London - Arsenal has signed Japanese teenager Ryo Miyaichi after a successful trial with the Premier League club.

The 18-year-old striker, who is yet to play for Japan's senior team, will join his new Arsenal team-mates in January after representing Chukyodai Chuyko High School in the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said on Saturday that Miyaichi "trialled with us in the summer and has raw ability which has attracted many clubs around the world. I look forward to helping him fulfil his potential here."

Wenger, who coached Japanese side Grampus Eight before joining Arsenal in 1996, has said that "it's very important that Asia is represented at our club."

Miyaichi played for Japan at the Under-17 World Cup in 2009.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
