Arsenal lifeline for Ramsey

London - Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey was handed a boost in his recovery from a broken leg as the teenager signed a new long-term contract on Tuesday.

Ramsey has been sidelined since suffering fractures to the tibia and fibula in his right leg in a challenge with Stoke defender Ryan Shawcross at the Britannia Stadium in February.

The 19-year-old Wales international, who joined Arsenal from Cardiff in 2008, had begun to establish himself in Arsene Wenger's midfield before the horrific injury and is determined to regain his place when he recovers.

"I'm very happy here at Arsenal, it's a great club and I've learned a lot since I've been here," Ramsey said.

"Every player wants to play in a team where they can play football and I feel that this is the way it should be played, so that's one of the reasons I signed a new contract."

Arsenal did not reveal the length of Ramsey's new deal but a statement on th club's website confirmed: "Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce Welsh international Aaron Ramsey has committed his future to the Club by signing a new long-term contract."
