Cape Town - Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger is eyeing a sensational January move for Germany international defender Mats Hummels.

The Express report that Dortmund will be tested by a January bid for star defender Mats Hummels.

Reports in England link Arsenal with a £32 million bid for the 25-year-old German centre back.

Manchester United have been the press' favourites to land Hummels should he and Dortmund both decide to allow him to move on but new speculation means that Louis van Gaal will have steep competition should bids be allowed for the World Cup winning defender.

Hummels recently denied he was looking to leave the club but did offer hope to those chasing his signature when he said: "If a club with a bigger reputation than Dortmund were to make a move, but I don't like the way they play football, I wouldn't even consider a move."

Arsenal, known for playing an exciting brand of football under Wenger, may just have seen their chances of landing Hummels increase.
