Cape Town - Arsenal have been boosted by the news that Real Madrid have stepped up their efforts to offload midfielder Sami Khedira.

Read: No Arsenal bid for Khedira

The German international's contract expires next summer and according to reports, the club is eager to cash in on the 27-year-old who signed from Stuttgart in 2010.

The World Cup winner has been the subject of strong interest from the Gunners all summer, while Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been linked with an approach for the player.

Real have plenty of options to fill Khedira's central midfield role, as the World Cup winner looks certain to be on his way.

Real Madrid are wary of losing Khedira on a free next summer and thus are trying to force the midfielder to make a switch this season.

Khedira made a miraculous recovery from a cruciate ligament injury to play a leading role in Germany's successful campaign at the 2014 Soccer World Cup in Brazil.
