London - French striker Nicolas Anelka has walked out on training and told staff at West Bromwich Albion he has retired from football, Sky Sports News reported on Thursday.
The 34-year-old only joined West Brom, his sixth Premier league club, last month and featured in their opening game defeat at the hands of Southampton on Saturday.
Anelka, who can include Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea among the clubs for whom he has played, quit international football at the 2010 World Cup following an unseemly spat with coach Raymond Domenech.
Nobody at West Brom was immediately available to comment when contacted by Reuters.
