Cape Town - Carlo Ancelotti has cooled his interest in Manchester United's Spanish goalkeeper, David De Gea, which has boosted the Manchester club's chances of securing a new deal for their goalkeeper.
According to the Daily Mail, De Gea is set to agree to extend his stay at United after Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti opted against making a move for the talented goalkeeper.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper has arguably been the best goalkeeper in the English Premiership this season with a series of fine individual performances.
Former Manchester United star Peter Schmeichel has urged his former club to secure a long-term deal for De Gea.
"It's very important the club's best players sign new contracts to send a signal," Schmeichel told Sky Sports.
"It shows that they believe in the Manchester United project and believe the club will go back not only to the top of the Premier League but also European football."
Ancelotti is reportedly happy with his goalkeeping options after Iker Casillas' return to form and Keylor Navas providing backup.
De Gea's contract expires at the end of the 2015/16 season.
