African stars shine in European soccer

Paris - A roundup of the African stars performances across Europe where Emmanuel Adebayor stole the headlines as Spurs smashed QPR.

Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored one goal and created another on Sunday as Tottenham whipped QPR 4-0 in the English Premiership.

Steven Pienaar lasted just nine minutes before he was forced off injured  during the Toffees 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Moroccan Marouane Chamakh was on target for Crystal Palace but could not prevent a 3-1 London derby defeat by West Ham.

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR (Tottenham Hotspur)

The Togo striker had a fine all-round match as Spurs ruined Harry Redknapp's return to White Hart Lane with a 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers. His cross set up Nacer Chadli for the first of the Belgian winger's two goals.

The provider later turned scorer as Adebayor finished off a sweeping move to score Tottenham's fourth goal.

STEVEN PIENAAR (Everton)

The South African midfielder had a frustrating weekend, lasting just nine minutes at Goodison Park before Calum Chambers's strong challenge forced him out of what became an enthralling 2-2 draw.

MAROUANE CHAMAKH (Crystal Palace)

In a rare highlight for the managerless Eagles, the Morocco forward scored their only goal in a 3-1 defeat by West Ham. Chamakh gave Palace a lifeline with a 20-yard shot three minutes into the second half only for Carlton Cole to wrap up the points for visitors.

BROWN IDEYE (West Bromwich Albion)

It was so nearly a dream debut for the Baggies' club-record 10 million pound ($16 million) signing when the Nigerian was sent on as a second-half substitute for Victor Anichebe at Southampton.

With his first touch, the forward got on the end of a cross only for his header to end up in the side-netting and the match ended goalless.

CHEICK DIABATE (Bordeaux)

The Mali striker had an eventful weekend as he played a starring role in maintaining Bordeaux's 100 per cent start to the season with a 3-1 victory at Nice. Diabate, 25, dispatched a 32nd-minute penalty -- his second goal of the season -- before setting up team-mate Nicolas Maurice-Belay to put Bordeaux ahead just after half-time. Diabate's participation ended abruptly, though, as he was sent off eight minutes from time after a second booking.

SIAKA TIENE (Montpellier)

The Ivorian left-back scored Montpellier's opening goal in a 2-0 victory at home to promoted Metz as Rolland Courbis' men strung together consecutive wins for the first time since February. Tiene, 32, sent a free-kick through a gap in the wall created by team-mate Paul Lasne.

RYAD BOUDEBOUZ (Bastia)

The Algerian midfielder handed former France international Claude Makelele the first victory of his coaching career with the only goal in Bastia's 1-0 home win over Toulouse. Boudebouz tucked away a 24th-minute penalty for his first goal of the season.

LALAINA NOMENJANAHARY (Lens)

The Madagascar international scored the promoted club's first goal of the season as Lens secured their first points of the campaign in a 1-0 win at Lyon. Yoann Touzghar squared for Nomenjanahary to steer into an empty net on 11 minutes for what proved to the decisive goal, and his first in the French top flight.

ASSANI LUKIMYA (Werder Bremen)

Democratic Republic of Congo international Lukimya helped Werder Bremen come from two goals behind to draw 2-2 at Hertha Berlin.

The visitors looked set to start their league campaign with a loss before the centre-back bundled home a free-kick after 53 minutes.

IBRAHIMA TRAORE (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

Pacy Guinea winger Traore impressed on his league debut for Borussia Moenchengladbach as they drew 1-1 with his former team, VfB Stuttgart.

He had a role in the final-minute equaliser, playing in Alvaro Dominguez, who picked out scorer Christoph Kramer.

ERIC MAXIM CHOUPO-MOTING (Schalke)

On his Schalke debut, Cameroon's Choupo-Moting set up a goal for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, but he and Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng ended up on the losing side as Hanover come from behind to win 2-1.

IKECHUKWU UCHE (Villarreal)

Nigerian striker Uche got Villarreal off to a flying start as he scored the opening goal with a fine low finish as the 'Yellow Submarine' won 2-0 at Levante.
