London -Tottenham Hotspur moved into the Premier League top four after a 2-0 victory over Newcastle at White Hart Lane on Tuesday.
For the second match in a row, Spurs won after being reduced to 10 men following the sending-off of defender Younes Kaboul, whose head appeared to make contact with Newcastle's Cheik Tiote.
Aaron Lennon opened the scoring in the second half before Kaboul was red-carded but in-form Wales midfielder Gareth Bale sealed victory nine minutes from time following a typically surging run as Tottenham leapfrogged champions Chelsea into fourth place.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in the first half but early in the second period Rafael van der Vaart almost gave Spurs the lead when his curling shot beat Newcastle keeper Tim Krul but went just wide of the post.
But they got the goal home fans wanted when Lennon sprinted down the right and beat Krul with a low drive after James Perch failed to close down the England winger.
Then came Kaboul's exit when Tiote squared up to the Frenchman after a tackle.
Kaboul appeared to force his head towards Tiote and although not a clear headbutt, it was enough for referee Anthony Taylor to produce the red card.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp responded by bringing off Roman Pavlyuchenko for Sebastien Bassong while Newcastle boss Alan Pardew sent on striker Nile Ranger for midfielder Jonas Gutierrez.
But it was Spurs who scored next when Croatia playmaker Luka Modric released Bale who burst past Steven Taylor out on the left wing before a low angled drive gave the Welshman his 10th goal of the season.
