London - An England soccer supporter who killed a Welsh fan in a drunken unprovoked assault outside Wembley Stadium in September was on Wednesday jailed for three years.
Michael Dye, 44, died after being felled by a single "sickening" punch from Ian Mytton, a 41-year-old father of three, shortly before England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales on September 6.
Prosecutors told the Old Bailey that Dye suffered massive brain damage and a fractured skull after being set upon by Mytton just 25 minutes before the kick-off.
Mytton had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and wept in court as he was sentenced on Wednesday.
"As you said in your letter to me - 'the two people, Michael Dye and myself were just going to a football match, for one of us to lose his life and for one of us to end up in prison is heartbreaking' - and I would agree with that," Judge Stephen Kramer told Mytton.
"It is a tragedy, most of all for the family and friends of Michael Dye," said the judge. "They have lost a husband, a brother, a father and a friend."
