Benni McCarthy says he feels his international career is over after being left out of South Africa's squad for the Confederations Cup, reports France Football magazine.
The 31-year-old striker had previously opted out of friendlies against Portugal and Norway this season and is now paying the price by being left out of the provisional Confederations Cup squad.
McCarthy had previously played 75 games for his nation, scoring 31 goals, but feels there will be no way back from this latest set-back.
"To be honest, with all the problems I have had with the national team in recent years, I think my career is over in the selection," McCarthy told the magazine.
"I am not disappointed. If they think it is best for team, all right.
"It is a young team and it is a good chance for them to gain confidence. I wish them luck."
