Chiefs to play in Polokwane

Johannesburg - The Premier Soccer League’s Cup Committee has made a decision regarding the venues for the Telkom Knockout semifinals.

The first Semifinal to be played on Saturday, 20 November 2010, will see Kaizer Chiefs host Santos at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 20h15.

The second semifinal between Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates will be played at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday, 21 November 2010, at 15h00.

This match was originally planned for Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, but the venue was deemed unsuitable for a match of this category based on the new Safety at Sports and Recreational Events act.

“The newly promulgated Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act determines that the PSL require Police clearance for all A-grade matches,” said PSL CEO Kjetil Siem.

“This new act puts huge responsibility on the organizers and whether we like it or not, there is no other option than to follow the authority’s recommendation.”

The League considered taking the match to Maritzburg United’s alternate home ground, Moses Mabhida Stadium. However, it is unavailable and after consultation with Maritzburg United, decided on Chatsworth Stadium.
