Chiefs sweep TKO awards

Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs rounded off their Telkom Knockout campaign with yet another loot at the tournament’s awards ceremony on Tuesday as they swept all awards on offer.

Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune walked away with the first award on offer, the Goalkeeper of the Tournament, at the Telkom Knockout awards function held at Summer Place on Tuesday.

Challengers for this award were Orlando Pirates keeper Moeneeb Josephs and Maritzburg United number one Shu-Aib Walters. Khune won R100 000.

Nominees for the Defender of the Tournament were Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa, Chiefs skipper Jimmy Tau and Santos Wayne Arendse. The Chiefs skipper Tau walked away with the trophy and R100 000.

The Midfielder of the Tournament gong went to Chiefs Reneilwe Letsholonyane. He saw off challenges from Bucs duo Daine Klate and Andile Jali.

The Striker of the Tournament, Knowledge Musona, walked away with R100 000 after scoring two goals for the Telkom Knockout champs. Chiefs’ hitman Sthembiso Ngcobo, who scored twice in the final, and Ezenwa Otorogu of Pirates were the other nominees.

For the Player of the Tournament award, Jali, Musona and Reneilwe are the nominees and the winner will be announced at the end of season awards.
