Chiefs: Motaung on his own

Johannesburg - Following their football manager’s appearance in court, Kaizer Chiefs have distanced themselves from Bobby Motaung’s arrest and insisted that it is "not a club matter".

Motaung was released on R50 000 bail on Thursday alongside Herbert Theledi after the pair appeared in court faced with charges of fraud, forgery and theft.

The duo’s case was postponed and they were told that they, plus fellow accused, Chris Grib, would have to return to court on October 15th.

On Thursday Chiefs denied knowledge of their employees arrest, but issued a statement on the matter.

The statement on the Kaizer Chiefs website said, “The club can now confirm that Bobby Motaung and his co-director, Herbert Theledi, of Lefika Emerging Equity (Pty) Ltd, appeared in court in Nelspruit on Thursday in relation to allegations made against Lefika Emerging Equity (Pty) Ltd regarding certain business dealings by the company.

“The two were granted bail on Thursday. We would like to categorically state that no arrests took place at the Chiefs Village in Naturena on Wednesday as was stated in the media.

“This is not a club matter and should not be treated as such.”

The charges laid against the accused relate to fraudulent activity surrounding Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
