Wenger: Arsenal's draw against PSG was 'deserved'

Cape Town - Arsene Wenger hailed his side's resilience after Arsenal "stayed in the game" to snatch a late 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Gunners couldn't have got off to a worse possible start when PSG striker Edinson Cavani edged the French champions ahead just 42 seconds into the contest.

Cavani failed to score into an open net late in the first half and PSG had further chances to wrap up the game, with Serge Aurier and Angel Di Maria both going close in the second half.

However, the Ligue 1 side were made to pay for their missed opportunities 12 minutes from time, when Alexis Sanchez netted the rebound from the Gunners' first shot on target in the match.

"Being behind after one minute, we had time to make corrections. Mentally, we stayed in the game," Wenger told beIN Sport.

"We had more freedom in the second half, we controlled the ball better. We came back to score, which we deserved.

"We benefited from PSG lowering their pace. We were drowned in the first period and we lost a lot of duels in midfield. In the second half it was much better."

Olivier Giroud and Marco Verratti will both miss their team's next group games after they saw red in the closing stages of the match.
