Cape Town - Borussia Dortmund head coach Thomas Tuchel was delighted to see his side come from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
The result sees them top Group F of the Champions League, ahead of Los Blancos by two points, and will now face one of Paris Saint-German, Manchester City, Benfica, Porto or Sevilla in the first knockout round of the competition.
BVB did not begin the match well and found themselves behind in the 28th minute via a Karim Benzenma goal and were caught napping once again shortly after half time when the French striker was left completely unmarked in box, allowing him to head home his brace.
However, around the goals, the visitors showed patches of brilliance and they were able to claw their way back into the match with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (60') and Marco Reus (88') earning them a share of the spoils.
"It goes without saying that we're very happy that we managed to get this equaliser and come top of the group. It's quite a special moment for us to come back from two goals down at this level in Madrid," Tuchel told the club's official website.
"Being prepared is one thing, but playing freely - not having to think about things - is another thing entirely, particularly here in Madrid.
"We lost our feel for the game by making simple mistakes and gave them a lot of chances to counter that we were having to clear from our penalty area.
"It wasn't until the 30th minute that we started to get a feeling that something was possible, that we could create chances on goal. Though were still lacking in accuracy, we had a foot in the door again. That feeling of being in the game remained with us thereafter."
