Cape Town - Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has left Erik Lamela and Vincent Janssen out of his squad for the Champions League group stages this season.
Argentina international Lamela has been sidelined for close to a year with injuries to both hips, and reportedly only started training out on the pitch recently as a part of his recovery.
Meanwhile, Netherlands international Janssen struggled in his debut campaign with Spurs, tallying just six goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.
The 23-year-old striker has fallen further down the striking pecking order with the arrival of Fernando Llorente on transfer deadline day, and failed to secure a move to Brighton before the window closed.
Pochettino only named 21 players in his European party due to UEFA's homegrown restrictions. The north Londoners will battle it out with Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and APOEL in Group H.
They face Dortmund in their opening game at Wembley on September 13.
