Simeone not focused on Champions League draw

Cape Town - Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone says he is not focused on the Champions League draw on Friday, instead they will get ready for the next La Liga fixture this weekend.

Atleti clinched their place in the last-eight of Europe's premier club competition after completing a 4-2 aggregate victory over German side Bayer Leverkussen following a goalless draw on Wednesday.

Simeone's team has now reached at least quarter-finals of the Champions League for the fourth consecutive season, having twice been runners-up.

Continental heavyweights Bayern Munich, Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund as well as Leicester City and Monaco are in the draw but Simeone is not stressing about who his side will pull out of the hat.

The Argentine said: "Atletico don't have any influence [on the draw] so what will be will be. This is an important step, but it is only one step.

"The Champions League is always special and this is important for the club.

"I want to acknowledge the great effort from the club and especially from the players, who have given their heart and soul and who have competed in all kinds of situations during these four years."
