Jardim admits Porto were better than Monaco

Cape Town - Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim says Porto were better than his side in their 3-0 Champions League loss on Tuesday.

Vincent Aboubakar bagged a brace, with Miguel Layun also on target in the one-sided win.

After the match, an honest Jardim explained that the Portuguese side were simply better than his charges on the night.

He said: "The explanation for the result is very easy: Porto were better than us in many different departments, notably in terms of how aggressive they were and in the 50-50s.

"After they opened the scoring they found a lot more space than we were able to.

"They didn't let us breathe. Porto deserved the win and, above and beyond any tactical or technical reasons, it was because they won 80% of the 50-50s on the floor and in the air.

"Of course our objective is to qualify. We have a point and there are still four matches to play."

Porto coach Sergio Conceiçao was naturally delighted with the win, that saw his side move into second place in Group G on three points, behind Besiktas, who have six, and ahead of Monaco and RB Leipzig on a point apiece.

He said: "It was a really good match and all the credit deserves to go to my players.

"We weren't the worst team in the world after losing to Besiktas, and we're not the best in the world after this.

"From a tactical standpoint it was a near-perfect match. We scored three goals and we stopped them from playing. We bolstered the middle of the pitch because we knew that was their strength."
