Guardiola: City need to improve to win titles

Cape Town - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes his side won’t win any silverware this season unless they improve.

City are coming off a narrow 2-1 win over arch-rivals Manchester United on Saturday, and while City were cruising at one point as they held a 2-0 lead, a lapse in concentration by goalkeeper Claudio Bravo allowed United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to put United back in contention right on the stroke of half-time.

Even though City held on to win the match, Guardiola admitted that they have to improve in numerous areas if they are going to get their hands on any titles.

"We made good things and bad things [at the derby] but it's just three points," he said. "Of course we're happy but we have to improve. We have to improve a lot of things."

The Citizens currently sit at the summit of the Premier League standings, but Guardiola doesn’t see them occupying that spot for a lengthy period of time if they don’t make the improvements needed.

If City’s fortunes take a turn for the worse after their flawless start to the Premier League season, the 45-year-old believes the effects will trickle down into their Champions League campaign as well.

"We are first in the Premier League but the way we have played so far will not be enough to win the Premier League," he said. "The way we have played in these six games is not good enough to win the Champions League."
