Cape Town - Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised the work that Arsene Wenger has done at Arsenal, and has backed him to deal with the criticism he's received this season.

Wenger has come under fire recently, after the Gunners' Premier League title challenge seemingly came undone with defeats against Watford and Chelsea.

However, Ancelotti has come to the defence of his opposite number as they prepare to face each other in the Champions League last-16 on Wednesday.

"He built a strong identity and a good style of football," said the Italian during a press conference.

"Wenger has the experience to know that in our job it is normal to be criticised. For this reason he has no problems.

"I have a lot of respect for the job he has done at Arsenal."

Kick off is at 21:45.
