Aboubakar brace secure Porto's last 16 spot

Paris - FC Porto won 5-2 at home to last season's UEFA Champions League semi-finalists Monaco to qualify from Group G.

According to the official Porto website, the Dragons qualified to the knockout stages for the 13th time, as Vincent Aboubakar - who has already scored five goals in the competition - and Brahimi, Alex Telles and Soares got onto the score sheet.

The Dragons didn’t want to wait for news from Leipzig - where the home club actually lost - and quickly tried to secure the three points (they were winning 3-0 at halftime) and get to the ten points mark they needed to assure the second place in Group G, behind Besiktas.

The Portuguese side were above all strong and effective: they didn’t give an easy time to Monaco's attack - the French team was already eliminated from European competitions, but had a strategy clearly set in counterattack designed by Leonardo Jardim – and, whenever they reached the area, the Dragons created difficulties.

Brahimi and Aboubakar, which led to two of the first three goals, was decisive for a victory that confirmed Porto as, once again, the only Portuguese club to reach the last 16.

The last 16 draw is set to be conducted on Monday, December 11.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
