Travelling United fans warned

Manchester - Manchester United fans headed to Rome for the Champions League final against Barcelona have been advised to stay away from certain parts of the Italian capital to avoid mishaps with local troublemakers.

Some 30 000 United fans are expected to travel for the May 27 game at Stadio Olimpico, and the British government's Foreign and Commonwealth Office is urging them not to go to areas where there has been trouble in the past.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip for many fans and we want them all to have a fantastic time but it is important to make suitable preparations before travel," said Alastair Mackie, FCO sports liaison officer.

"We have been working closely with the Italian authorities and the British Embassy in Rome to ensure that fans have support in Rome and access to all the information they need to ensure a safe trip."

The FCO is advising fans to avoid taking the metro to the Piazzale Flaminio or to use the Ponte Duca D'Aosta bridge because there has been trouble on those routes to the stadium on many occasions.

From an official meeting point at Villa Borghese, free transport will be laid on for fans to and from the stadium.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
