Kalou double inspires Chelsea

London - Salomon Kalou scored twice on Wednesday as Chelsea took a huge step towards the Champions League knockout round with a 4-0 defeat of Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

With striker Didier Drogba sitting out the final game of his three-match UEFA ban, his Ivory Coast team mate Kalou showed a real predatory instinct with goals either side of halftime to put his side in charge.

Frank Lampard then ended his lean spell in front of goal with Chelsea's third and Atletico's miserable night was complete when Luis Perea scored an own goal in stoppage time to leave struggling Atletico in real danger of failing to finish in the top two in Group D.

With three wins from three Chelsea are top of the group with nine points, three better off than Porto while Atletico languish in fourth place with one point.
