English CL hopes analysed

Cape Town - Arsenal and Man City face a nervous wait to see who they face in the last 16 while Chelsea have a slightly easier draw.

On Monday, the three remaining English Premiership clubs will know their Round of 16 opponents in the Champions League.

In terms of the rules for this stage, teams cannot face:

1. A team from the same country,
2. A team that qualified in the same position as them (i.e Group winners will face runners-up and vice versa),

Here are the possible opponents for the three English Premiership teams:

Arsenal - Group Runners up

The Gunners could face Real Madrid,  Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Porto or Monaco.

Chelsea - Group Winners

Jose Mourinho's side face a potential clash with Juventus, Basel, PSG, Bayer Leverkusen or Shakhtar.

Manchester City -Runners up

After scraping through qualification, the Citizens must now deal with a Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Porto, Dortmund or Monaco.
