Charlton tips Bayern to win CL

Berlin - England's World Cup winner Bobby Charlton has tipped German giants Bayern Munich to win this season's Champions League title.

"If I had to say one team, I would pick Bayern Munich to win the Champions League," the 75-year-old football legend told German broadcaster Sport 1, ahead of Bayern's last 16, second leg clash with Arsenal in Munich on Wednesday.

The former Manchester United star, who won the World Cup with the Three Lions in 1966, said Bayern's Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund are also contenders to reach the Champions League final at Wembley stadium on May 25.

"Borussia Dortmund is a unique football club with unbelievable fans. They belong among the favourites," said Charlton, who was knighted in 1994.

Bayern, who lead Arsenal 3-1 from last month's first leg at the Emirates, lost last season's Champions League final at home to Chelsea on penalties and are bidding to reach the final for the third time in four seasons.

Dortmund, who won the German league and cup double last season, are already into Friday's quarter-finals draw after they beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-2 on aggregate in the Round of 16.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
