Champions League
Barcelona book earlier flight
2011-05-24 12:44
Madrid - The Barcelona squad will fly to London on Tuesday for Saturday's Champions League final, two days earlier than planned, due to the disruption to air travel caused by the ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano, the club said.
Airlines halted hundreds of flights on Tuesday after a plume of ash from an erupting Grimsvoetn volcano in Iceland blew over Britain.
Barca wanted to avoid a repeat of last year, when the squad traveled 1 000km by coach to Milan for their Champions League semi-final because the ash cloud from another Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjoell, disrupted air travel throughout Europe.
The Catalan giants lost that match to 3-1 against Inter.
For supporters wanting to travel to Wembley this week "it will be complicated," a club spokesperson said.
