Allegri rues costly mistake

Cape Town - Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri believes their only defensive error proved costly in a 1-0 Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

The Bianconeri dominated the clash at the Vicente Calderon for long periods, but were ultimately undone by an Arda Turan strike 16 minutes from time, leaving things finely poised in group A, with all four teams on three points.

Allegri was pleased with the performance of his side but admits their only real mistake was punished by a ruthless Atletico, despite Diego Simeone's men being restricted to just 39 percent possession on the night.

"We paid for our mistake in run-up to the goal," Allegri said in his post-match press conference.

"It was a defeat from a game where we played well. We knew it was going to be a difficult match. The game was quite balanced and Juventus dominated part of the time.

"If we didn’t shoot more is because Atleti played well. We had opportunities but we failed in the decisive pass. We knew it was not easy to score against Atlético.

"We tried to keep possession to control the game. I think we played a good match from a technical point of view.

"It doesn't change all we have been doing up to now. We are going to analyse this result, thinking about our important match against AS Roma [on Sunday]."
