Blatter asks Egypt for details

Zurich - FIFA President Sepp Blatter has asked the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) for details on the causes of the stadium riot that killed at least 74 fans.

The tragedy on Wednesday followed Al-Masry's league match against Al-Ahly in the Mediterranean city of Port Said.

After speaking on Thursday morning to EFA President Samir Zaher, Blatter wrote to him asking for "further news from your concerning the circumstances of this tragedy."

Blatter says he "fully understand(s) the country's shock and anger that such a disaster could have come to pass."

He adds that "we must take steps to ensure that such a catastrophe never happens again."
